Flight schedules disrupted by Typhoon Nesat

With Typhoon Nesat approaching, schedules of domestic and international flights have been disrupted for the rest of Saturday and Sunday morning, according to carriers.

Nesat has been gaining strength into a typhoon from a tropical storm Friday night, moving closer to eastern Taiwan, and is scheduled to make landfall in Hualien late Saturday.

EVA Airways, one of Taiwan's leading international carriers, said that the departure time of Flight BR26 from Taipei to Seattle has been changed to 8 p.m. Saturday ahead of the original schedule of 11:40 p.m.

Flight BR16 will take off from Taipei for Los Angeles at 11 a.m. Sunday, delayed from 11:55 p.m. Saturday, while flight BR28 will leave from Taipei at 11:30 a.m. Sunday for San Francisco instead of the original 11:30 p.m. Saturday, EVA Air said.

The carrier added that Flight BR10 from Taipei to Vancouver will depart at 4 a.m. Sunday, earlier than the original 11:55 p.m. Saturday, while Flight BR52 will leave from Taipei at 10:30 a.m. Sunday for Houston rather than 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

For EVA Air's European routes, the departure time of Flight BR87 between Taipei and Paris has been delayed to 4:20 a.m. Sunday from 11:40 p.m. Saturday, and the departure time of Flight BR315 from Taipei to Brisbane has also been postponed to 4 a.m. Sunday from 11 p.m. Saturday.

According to EVA Air, Flight BR61 to Vienna will take off at 4:20 a.m. Saturday, ahead of the original 11:40 p.m. Saturday.

EVA Air said that all of its flights at Kaohsiung airport have been canceled for Saturday.

For its part, China Airlines, another leading carrier in Taiwan, has delayed the departure times of Flight CI004 to San Francisco and Flight CI008 to Los Angeles earlier to 10 p.m. Saturday from 11:35 p.m. and 11:50 p.m., respectively, and other long-haul flights originally scheduled to take off after 10:30 p.m. Saturday have been rescheduled to leave after 5 a.m. Sunday.

CAL said that flights CI132 and CI133 between Kaohsiung and Okinawa and flights CI937 and CI938 between Kaohsiung and Hong Kong have been cancelled for Saturday.

Mandarin Airlines and Far Eastern Air Transport, two Taiwanese mid-range carriers, said that their domestic flights have been cancelled for Sunday, while Mandarin Airlines has canceled Flight AE1819 from Taichung to Hong Kong for Sunday.
