Qatar Airways' India launch dream may hit air pocket

Qatar Airways‚?? plans of launching a domestic airline in India won‚??t be easy to implement, with the government and incumbent airlines already citing some hurdles to such a proposal, including a rule that bars any foreign entity from controlling an Indian carrier. The government had in last June allowed the foreign investors - except airlines - to own 100% of an Indian carrier. But it didn‚??t tweak the so-called rule of substantial ownership and effective control, contradicting the move to open up the avaiton sector. And nobody seems to be in a hurry to correct this. ‚??As of now there is no plan to change the ownership and control rules,‚?? a top civil aviation ministry official informed.
